Nurturing Creativity - Beyond the Canvas: Cultivating Global Art Citizens in Bicol

The Global Art Citizen Circle event, held on February 21, 2026, at La Luma Café, positioned itself as more than a mere painting workshop; it became a stage for young minds to imagine their place within a broader, inclusive global community. Organised by Artdialogo Asia in partnership with Brush Hour, the initiative demonstrated how foundational creative education can foster both personal growth and collective renewal.

The day unfolded with the distribution of learning booklets, grounding the youth in the essential elements of art and brush techniques before a single stroke touched the canvas. Yet, the true essence of the gathering was articulated during the Guided Painting Workshop and Talk on Global Citizenship as Artists, led by Teacher JJ. Here, the discussion turned toward an urgent and universal truth: art is not merely an ornament, but a universal language capable of bridging cultural divides and connecting communities around the world.

Following this theoretical grounding, the participants engaged in an Art Competition, transforming abstract concepts into tangible expressions of imagination. Twelve young artists translated their inner worlds onto canvas, proving that creativity demands both effort and the courage of personal expression. The resulting artworks were thoughtfully evaluated by a distinguished panel of art educators and artists – Dr. Lambert Angeles, Mrs. Nonnette Santiago, and Mrs. Ma. Kim S. Jano.

The event culminated in an awarding ceremony and a week-long exhibit at La Luma Café, showcasing the tangible outputs of this creative exchange. We extend our deepest congratulations to the top honorees whose works stood out for their expressive interpretation: 1st Place: Julia Ysobelle Paz, 2nd Place: Madeline Brajas, 3rd Place: Ma. Ayessa F. Esmeria Ultimately, the Global Art Citizen Circle reminds us that when we provide the youth with the infrastructure and encouragement for self-discovery, art becomes an extension of life itself – a shared journey of connection and continuous learning
